Saltee Island

On Saturday I made one of my annual trips to the Saltee Islands off the coast of Wexford, in the southeast of Ireland. I love this spot, it is a great way to spend a few hours watching the wildlife and taking in the sounds of the sea. To get to the island you take Declan’s ferry from Kilmore Quay, you change into a rib when you are almost at the island, due to the shallow nature of the water. You need to wear shoes with good grip as the place the rib lands can be very slippy, depending on the tides. You also need to bring a little picnic as there are no facilities on the island, it is primarily a nature reserve. There is a holiday home on the island for the family that own the island. Another feature is Prince Michaels throne.
